The Doctors for Cambodia Initiative
The Doctors for Cambodia Initiative is designed to redesign the entire medical landscape in Cambodia.
Some details are:
** The Doctors for Cambodia Initiative will provide 190 medical scholarships to promising Cambodian students to study medicine at a Cambodian University. Each student is mentored by a medical practitioner from another country, and is required to remain in Cambodia to practice medicine.
** The scholarship program not only includes the provision of University fees, but also the full cost of books and materials, clothing, accommodation and utilities, food, and a further amount to support their parents and family.
** Students have the opportunity to visit overseas medical establishments for 2 to 3 weeks each year under the guidance of their mentor practitioner.
** Similar scholarships will be shortly made available for other students undertaking nursing, dental and pharmaceutical degrees.
** The Doctors for Cambodia Initiative is also commencing to support the seven Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospitals in Cambodia which treat 650,000 children, and save over 85,000 children’s lives each year. All of the free medical care in these hospitals in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap is of the standard experienced in the western countries, are operated by a Swiss Foundation and are totally free of corruption.
** Each student is sponsored by a medical practice from overseas, and the students will be committed to stay in Cambodia after they are qualified.
